Čepić
ČEPIČ
The famous thing about Čepić is the lake that was drained off and turned into fields. The malarial, though a lake rich in fish, was drained in 1932 when the water flew through a canal particularly built for this drainage. The water flew to the nearby Plomin bay.
Eight months later on the same ground where once was water, now there are fields and first roads.
The St Trinity parochial church was built in 1882 and the proof to that is the inscription on a wall of the sacristy. The altars that were transported here from a church that was standing near the lake are a little older. The church near the lake was pulled down when the new building was constructed. The monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary was founded in Čepić in1385 and it existed till 1783 when the emperor Joseph II abolished it. Today you can see only the remnants of the structure of the monastery that bears the name Kloštar. The main altar dates from the 18th cent and the painting showing St Trinity dates from the 19th cent. Built in the same century is also an altar dominated by the image of St Anton, from the left wing of the church.
Under the vault of the St Trinity church are also another two altars and an organ set in 1902.
