Cres
CRES TOWN
Cres is the second largest of the Adriatic Islands, only beaten in size by its neighbour Krk - with which it has a ferry link. The island marks the transition between the lush green vegetation of norhtern Croatia and the bare karst of the southern Adriatic islands. Indeed, unspoiled nature is one of the vantage points of Cres Island - the little town of Beli is home to an Ecology centre, established to protect the endangered species of the griffon vultures while further south, close to the shores of Losinj, Blue World is an ecology group looking after the population of bottle-nose dolphins which swim free in the seas around Cres and Losinj.
The town of Cres lies on the western, the most fertile, part of the island of the same name which is characterized by its stone, dense coniferous woods and the blue sea. Find your peace, choose your rock and discover why the island of Cres, whose sky is reigned by griffon vultures, whose soil is embellished by the Vransko Lake, a natural phenomenon, was a favorite destination since Roman times!
