Turanj
TURANJ
Turanj is a traditional Dalmatian village with population around 1200.
It is placed on the northern Pasman channel coastline, just in center of a archipelago with 16 islands - a paradise for those who love to explore secluded coves and look for private beaches. Just between Turanj and Pasman there is a channel neck and it causes strong sea current, which is a world rarity because it flows both ways. I
n ancient time there was a watermill driven by current. Turanj is situated on north side of Pašman channel, in the middle of archipelago very similar to famous Kornati, only smaller and closer to mainland.
If you are staying in Turanj these beautiful islands are only few minutes away. The feeling of being on the sea where you can't see shoreline is somewhat beautiful and unreal, but it's much more comforting and calming to navigate the sea when you see the shores. It helps people that are not accustomed to the sea to relax and enjoy navigation.
In the centre of village there is a church "Lady of Carmel" from XV. Century. On the archeological site, in the village graveyard there is a church of Saint Mary from IX. century.
