About destination Hvar[hide][show]
HVAR TOWN
The chic town of Hvar is a unique fusion of luxurious Mediterranean nature, rich cultural and historical architecture, and a mundane, tourist present-day.
It is situated in a picturesque corner of the island of the same name, facing the southern, side of the world that has given it a Mediterranean attractivness and cheerfulness. It is also right on the sea, that gave it splendid and repeatable history. Hvar town is indeed an inexhaustible treasury of the scenery, atmosphere and adventure.
Its name derives from the Greek name for island and town, that stood where today Stari Grad (Hvar became an island’s centre in 13th century) stands - PHAROS. Hvar gained glory and power during middle ages being an important port within the Venetian naval empire.
Today, it is centre of island’s tourism and one of the favourite destinations in the whole Dalmatian riviera - a town of smiling and courteous people, who are almost only dedicated to tourism. Hvar Town has excellent boat links with the mainland, car ferries arrive at Stari Grad and Sucuraj.
And as you would expect for such a high-profile destination, Hvar has a big number of excellent restaurants where to enjoy the delicious Adriatic seafood, great bars and clubs in which to spend your nights and - best of all - endless beaches in and around the town where to enjoy the clear and clean waters of the Adriatic sea.
