ŠILO
Šilo is a typical tourist resort, ideal for rest and recreation.
The sandy beaches, crystal clear sea and numerous coves are ideal for swimming. A calm sea with cool morning and evening breezes provide good opportunities for sailing, wind surfing, rowing, and boating and many other water sports.
Šilo offers accommodation in family houses with fully fitted apartments and rooms. These guest houses are conveniently located at the seafront, the farthest a mere 30-450 m from the sea. In the peak season when all capacities are fully booked, this idyllic resort has 1,200 visitors at the most, thus ensuring peace and quiet for a pleasant and restful stay.
There are a few small restaurants offering set menus, but also delicious local and international specialties as well. Not to be missed are the well-known island wines and home-made dishes prepared with olive oil.
Entertainment programs include local summer festivities and occasional Ťklapať singing (male chorus singing in a group of 5 to 10 men, typical for the Adriatic coast and islands).
There are also interesting things to see and do in the vicinity: visit picturesque Dobrinj with its old churches and ethnographic collection, or the cave Biserujka in the village Rudine. The bay of Klimno (8 km from Šilo) is known for its beaches with curative mud. There are two small harbours for smaller vessels and a number of safe moorings. All required formalities may be completed in the Harbour Master's Office in Šilo.
In the immediate vicinity there is a number of small marinas where boats can be left throughout the year (sea and dry docks). Besides swimming and sunbathing, the lovely coast and the clear sea offer excellent possibilities for fishing and diving. Tennis courts and bowling grounds are pleasantly located by the sea.
The indented coast and interesting underwater world attract a large number of scuba divers who enjoy the natural beauties of a fascinating submarine world. They can also explore the secrets of sunken ships in the nearby waters.
