ZATON
Zaton is situated in a wide bay between Nin and Zadar, in the western part of the Sibenik channel, right at the mouth of the river Krka. It was founded in the 15th ct. but the ancient necropolis from the times before Christ in its surroundings testify its ancient history.
If you take part in sports, Zaton has something to offer you! Your schedule will be filled from morning till night with sport and recreational activities. However, if you are in want of entertainment, the proximity of the city of Zadar and its variety of offers is sure to satisfy your needs.
Zaton is a typical Dalmatian place. Surrounded by the hills, it is a place with close built stone houses, old and new at the very end of a bay that bears the same name as the little town itself.
The church in the centre is St.George and St.Rock's church built in the 16th ct. The road towards the hinterland takes you among fertile fields with sour cherries, wine grapes and olives. Besides the agriculture, the inhabitants of Zaton are good fishermen and lately their main occupation is tourism. Owing to extremely favourable natural conditions, a high quality rowing lanes were built on occasion of the Mediterranean Sports Games as well as all the accompanying facilities so that even today many local rowing teams and national teams practice here.
During the summer months the accomodation is offered in private rooms and apartments and the tasty sea food and Dalmatian specialities can be found in several local inns.
Dynamic and rich cultural life as well as various other entertainments can be found in nearby Vodice and Sibenik. Particularly attractive are nearby Prokljan lake, Skradin and National Park of the river Krka which make Zaton a desirable destination for a pleasant holiday.
