Banjole

Banjole is a coastal village in the southern part of western Istria, 6 km southeast of Pula; population 707; located between the coves of Solin and Paltan. The coast is well-indented, under pine forests. Chief occupations include fishing, tourism, fish-processing industries and cultivation of oysters. In the cove of Kanalic are the remains of the church of St. Nicholas (St. Mikula, 7th-8th c.), with a semicircular apse, whose width is that of the whole nave. Church walls used to be decorated with pilaster strips. Banjole is a fishermen's village with a naturally protected harbour, whose inhabitants rely on the sea, so that fresh fish is an everyday gift. Almost every house offers a room or a furnished apartment. Accommodation is also possible in a boarding-house or campsite. A number of coves, peninsulas, natural beaches, sports and recreational facilities - tennis courts, walking and bike trails, renting of sailing and motor boats and other water sports - make Banjole a pleasant place to stay. Especially interesting is sports fishing. A picturesque fishermen's village, a resort for all the tourists who want to avoid summer crowds, with a nice beach in the vicinity. Angling represents a possible pastime as well as hunting (hare, partridge, pheasant) in the surroundings. There is a ranch called ŤLiborať situated between Medulin and Liznjan, offering riding for already trained riders, as well as trekking. Competitions in show jumping are organized on the ranch.
